Ukrainian Startup Fund held tenth Pitch Day

On August 28, the Ukrainian Startup Fund held the tenth Pitch Day. The event took place in an offline format on the territory of the UNIT.City innovation park. Nine startups made presentations (pitch). All of them are at the seed stage (applying for state grant funding of $ 50,000 each).

The event began with a solemn congratulation via online communication from the British politician and co-founder of the Ukrainian British City Club John Grogan:

“There are 3 things I want to tell you today:

First, what do Burger King, Uber, and CNN have in common? All of them started their activity during economic crises. Like the one in which we find ourselves today. It’s exciting to be a startup in times of crisis. It may sound absurd, but it is. People need innovation more than ever, and many are out of work. So do not be afraid, even though the world is going through difficult times. This can be a great opportunity to show yourself.

Second, this week Ukraine celebrates its twenty-ninth Independence Day. I was lucky to travel to this beautiful country. It seems to me that in cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, 50% of the economy is based on IT and innovation. Many universities, higher educational institutions – all this gives hope for a bright future for Ukraine, which I sincerely believe.

Third: Yes, today you are competing. Compete for funding from the Fund. But remember that you should not forget about the cooperation opportunities that this event gives. Team up for the best results! I wish you not only to start here in Ukraine, but also to grow”.

On August 28, in addition to the jubilee pitch, the Fund marks another date – the anniversary of the start of operations. Lesya Sevruk, Chairman of the Fund’s Supervisory Board, spoke about the results of work and successes:

“Thanks to everyone who joined our anniversary! Special thanks to our experts who work pro bono and spend their time to find, highlight and evaluate promising startups. Our Supervisory Board constantly debates and argues to find the best practices and methods for implementing the Fund’s activities To date, more than 2000 applications from startups have been submitted, about 40 million hryvnias have already been issued in the form of grants, and we plan to issue another 35 to 70 million hryvnias by the end of the year. And this is less than a year of work! The Foundation’s team continues to work despite the current political, economic and epidemiological state. Comparing the level of preparation of startups at the first pitch with what we see now, the quality has improved significantly. We are glad that startups have responded positively to our government initiative”.

The solemn part was completed by the Director of the Fund Pavlo Kartashov, awarding the winners of the ninth Pitch Day:

“All those present are real lucky ones, because today for the Foundation is a double celebration: the anniversary of the work coincided with the anniversary pitch. This is a special and, without exaggeration, a unique atmosphere. After the teams go on stage, there will be an opportunity to prove that you are the best. climb it, you have to overcome a furious path, so this is already a victory!”.
