Hemostatic tourniquet with a time indicator was developed in Kharkiv
On the basis of the Vostok-N Kharkiv industrial-commercial enterprise, which specializes in the development and manufacture of medical equipment, a mechanical tourniquet with a time indicator to stop arterial bleeding was created. Supported by businessman Volodymir Manukyan.
One of the designers, Andriy Kovalev, said that at first the harnesses were developed according to NATO and EU standards for use by the military when injuring in combat and in emergency situations.
“The main feature of our development is that if a person releases the handle of the tourniquet, the tape will not loosen on its own and bleeding will not resume. There are also special technical solutions that allow applying the tourniquet with one hand. And this is crucial if a person applies tourniquet on their own, or loses consciousness during manipulations from pain shock or loss of blood”, – he said.
Kovalev added that harnesses may well find wide application in civil medicine. They not only allow for uniform compression, dosed compression on the limb, but also do not injure the skin and tissues.
It is favorably distinguished from similar products by its small size and the fact that all parts that may come into contact with the skin are covered with plastic and softening materials. On the harness, the installation time indicator with a scale for 24 hours, and its minimum weight and dimensions allow you to put it in any medicine cabinet.
The founder of the Renaissance Medico charity foundation Volodymir Manukyan suggests that the combination of functionality, quality and price of the tourniquet will make it popular both in hospitals, surgical clinics, ambulance and emergency medical stations, and in civil defense units when providing first aid.
“I would very much like for Ukrainian hospitals and first-aid kits to have more and more such technological products of domestic products that are not inferior to foreign counterparts, but much more affordable,” said Volodymir Manukyan.
