“Museum of Science” to be opened in Ukraine
This fall, the first interactive space “Museum of Science” will be opened in Kyiv on the squares of the National Complex “Expocentre of Ukraine”. More than 120 interactive exhibits and installations await visitors. Here you can ride a bicycle with square wheels, go on a space journey, see a two-meter hologram and a 60-kilogram crystal, compose water and salt from atoms in augmented reality, learn how the human body works and many other scientific attractions.
The Science Museum was created by the Minor Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in collaboration with the Gres Todorchuk agency and with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
The organizers describe the concept of the project in one word – “spectrum”. A spectrum of sciences, discoveries and impressions from launching lightning in a Tesla coil and controlling a robotic arm to the ability to see your own voice, get inside a giant shell and into a mirror tunnel with an optical illusion. A separate area of space will be dedicated to Ukrainian scientists. The largest exhibit in the museum is a glass ceiling that changes color when visitors enter the correct answers to science questions on their tablets.
“The interactive space is another step towards the popularization of science. Part of the exposition is mobile. Our plans are to exhibit it in other cities and, finally, to create such museums throughout the country. At the Museum of Science, we try, first of all, to interest, revive emotionless terms from textbooks, turning them into objects and installations, we show how formulas and laws work in everyday life. All young visitors who want to know more are immediately invited to thematic circles for an in-depth study of a particular science”, – says the director of the MANU Oxen Lesnoy.
Teams from Ukraine, Canada, USA, Poland and Sweden worked on the exposition, consisting of 7 blocks. In particular, the exhibition “Strange Matter” will be presented by the Canadian Ontario Science Center, one of the most famous scientific and research centers in the world. The exhibitions “Great Inventions”, “Man”, “Acoustics” and “Optics” were specially designed for the “Museum of Science” by the Polish company Strong Interactions, whose team worked on the creation of the famous Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw. One of the key exhibits came to Kyiv from the Museum of Mathematics in New York. This is a tricycle with square wheels, of which there are only four in the world.
It is symbolic that the project opens in the revitalized Science pavilion at VDNKh. Built in 1958 for scientific exhibitions, today space is opening its doors again to anyone interested in how the world works.
Fedoriv agency worked on the project identity, the pavilion architecture was created by the MONO Architects team. The partner is the Farmak company.
During quarantine, enhanced security measures recommended by the Ministry of Health are provided in the space, namely: masked entrance, limiting the number of visitors due to advance purchase of tickets with a fixed time, disinfection of interactive elements of exhibits and other surfaces.

More than 150,000 children from all over Ukraine study at the Small Academy of Sciences. Over the past year and a half, Ukrainian young scientists have won 80 awards in the most prestigious international scientific olympiads and competitions. The big ambition of MANU is to educate a new galaxy of Ukrainian specialists and return Ukraine to the map of the world’s leading scientific countries.
