Ukrainian startup TripMyDream has launched an app for travelers

On October 13, 2020, a Ukrainian startup, the product of which is the TripMyDream cheap ticket search service, launched an app of the same name for travelers. Within two days, it reached the top 3 in terms of downloads in the Travel category in the Ukrainian App Store.

Co-founder of the service Andriy Burenok told AIN.UA about how the application works, about the TripMyDream service performance during the quarantine period and how much the travel industry can lose in general.

How the app works

tripmydream — mobile application for finding profitable flights, which combines all the available functions of the service TripMyDream.

Available to users:

• predicted prices for air tickets using TripMyDream technology. As Andrey Burenok noted, it allows you to determine the cost with an accuracy of 85% on more than 200 routes from Ukraine around the world;
• detailed information about cities, countries, great deals, as well as advice on ways and options for travel;
• quick search filters;
• quick notifications of a decrease or increase in prices for air tickets to certain destinations.

At launch, the tripmydream app is only available for download to iOS users. Development of the Android version is not planned in the near future.

“To develop an application on Android, you either need to earn more money (the current market does not allow this), or decide on proposals from developers that offer to do it for free. However, they will not make a quality product”, – TripMyDream co-founder Andriy Burenok.

They wanted to launch the mobile application from the very beginning, along with the appearance of the TripMyDream online service in 2017. However, at that time, the team lacked the necessary expertise and free funds for development. In this regard, the application began to be prepared in 2019. According to Burenk, the developers were found through a tender; it was ICE-CREAM Development. A year has passed from concept to release.

What to expect in the travel market

According to Andriy Burenk, in the near future the travel market will remain at the level of the quarantine months. The reason for this is the clear zoning of countries that you can fly to, as well as many risks.

“Now people are looking for travel options. Compared to the pre-quarantine period, search demand fell by half, and sales fell even more. People search, but don’t buy. This is associated with the risks of buying a ticket and not flying, as well as difficulties in returning the funds spent”.

According to Andriy Burenko, the tourism industry will lose several trillion dollars in 2020. According to him, since the beginning of the pandemic, about 120,000 employees of the sphere have been laid off. Many airlines are on the verge of bankruptcy and take loans from states.

“For example, TripMyDream had a peak in January 2020. The company’s revenue reached around $ 100,000. In February we dropped 40% in air tickets, in March – by 80%, and in April – by 90%. We have reduced all advertising budgets”, – added Andriy.

Andriy Burenok told AIN.UA earlier in a blitz interview how the coronavirus crisis affected the service and the travel market in general.
