PURIFICATION OF DRAINAGE WATER (LEACHATE) OF MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE LANDFILLS BY THE METHOD OF ELECTRIC DESTRUCTION

PURPOSE:

For the treatment of drainage water (leachate) of landfills of solid domestic waste, contaminated groundwater and highly concentrated industrial wastewater.

DESCRIPTION:

The technology makes it possible to purify water contaminated with high concentrations of organic and mineral substances, heavy metals and biogenic compounds at low energy costs and high economic efficiency. The technology combines traditional methods of purification using sorption and membrane technologies with modern technologies of electrical destruction, which ensure the purification of at least 99% of all organic and inorganic impurities soluble in the input wastewater under conditions of low energy consumption. As a result of the step-by-step purification of polluted waters using the technology, it is possible to purify wastewater to a level that meets the regulatory requirements of Ukraine and the EU for industrial water, it is allowed to be discharged into open water bodies, as well as to the level of drinking water. Two prototypes of equipment were created, which implements the technology: a research prototype of an installation for cleaning leachate from solid waste landfills with a capacity of 100 l / h; an industrial prototype of a plant for the treatment of highly concentrated wastewater with a capacity of 5 m3 / h. Tests of technology for cleaning filtrate from solid waste landfills in the EU were performed.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Types of contaminated water that can be treated using the proposed technology: 1) Leachate – drainage water of solid waste landfills; 2) Liquid phase digestate of biogas plants; 3) Water contaminated with pesticides and other persistent organic pollutants; 4) Mine and drilling wastewater from the mining industry; 5) Groundwater contaminated with arsenic, which is a natural form of groundwater pollution found in some regions of Europe; 6) Wastewater from industrial enterprises, such as vegetable oil, olive oil producers, dairies and other industrial enterprises; 6) Surface storm and melt runoff from the territories of cities and industrial enterprises, which carry a large amount of organic substances, suspensions, oil products, phenols, heavy metal compounds, biogenic elements.

ADVANTAGES:

The ability to treat various types of wastewater, including leachate from solid waste landfills and other industrial and municipal wastewater; the technology ensures the reduction of risks associated with biological and chemical hazards from leachate and other types of wastewater to acceptable levels determined by the regulatory documents of Ukraine and the EU; low energy consumption compared to other filtrate cleaning technologies; the technology cost is much lower than alternative competing technologies; easy to operate and repair equipment.
