Biological protection and detection of drones: EU allocates € 160 million for defense research
The European Union has announced the allocation of € 160 million in the framework of the European defense industry program for research in 12 key areas, including medical protective equipment and countering bacteriological, radiation and chemical threats.
It is reported by the European Commission.
“The European Commission is waiting for project proposals in 12 main areas, including the development, creation of samples and testing of medical devices to counter the chemical, biological, radiation threats, as preventive and therapeutic immunotherapy, which can be useful in overcoming future pandemic crises, such as the one with which Europe and the whole world are facing today”, – the report says.
Other areas of research include the development of tools to detect and counter unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems, such as defense drones, and the development of cyber defense capabilities, EU networks and technologies to protect communications systems and information exchange.
The financing program encourages small and medium-sized European enterprises to participate in projects.
Last year, medium-sized business representatives successfully used €100 million and offered the EU innovative and forward-looking solutions in the defense, in particular in such areas as artificial intelligence and quantum technologies, as well as critical technologies in the field of electronic warfare – 65 manufacturers are working here now and research institutes in 15 EU member states.
