ClassTag startup with Ukrainian founder raised $ 5 million round
ClassTag startup raised $ 5 million seed round from a group of investors, including AlleyCorp, Contour Ventures, Founder Collective, John Martinson, Newark Venture Partners, Smart Hub and TMT Investments. This is reported by TechCrunch.
The company was founded by entrepreneur Vlada Lotkina, who moved from Kharkiv to the USA, studied at the Wharton School of Business, worked at Boston Consulting and Dell.
According to TechCrunch, the story of the startup began with the fact that Vlada, like many working parents, wanted to participate in the education of her daughter.
“A paper about the upcoming excursion, worn between things in a backpack, requested the appearance of some kind of smart technology for communication between parents and teachers”, – the edition quotes the words of the CEO.
So Lotkina launched ClassTag, a free platform where parents can communicate with their children’s teachers, who work in more than 60 languages. Parents can use the platform for information on events, excursions, fundraising. For teachers, this is an easy way to contact their parents, plan meetings with them, and see which parents are more involved in their children’s education. Communication can go through any of the channels, it is not necessary to download the application (by mail, SMS, online or even on paper).
The company makes money by enabling businesses related to education and children’s products to advertise on their platform. According to Forbes, HP, Clorox, Under Armor, Lands ’End, Chobani, Penguin Random House, National Geographic Explorer and other brands collaborate with the platform.
According to the company itself, it already has over 2 million users in 25,000 US schools.
