In 2019, more than $ 0.5 billion was invested in Ukrainian startups and IT companies – this is a new record
The Ukrainian Venture Capital and Private Capital Association (UVCA) and Deloitte have prepared an annual review of the Ukrainian venture capital market in 2019.
It is noted that over the past years there has been a steady growth of the Ukrainian investment market. In 2019, a new record was recorded for the volume of investments by Ukrainian startups and IT companies. For the first time this figure crossed the line of half a billion dollars a year. The total volume of venture investments in Ukrainian IT companies reached $ 510 million, which is one and a half times higher than the maximum of 2018. At the same time, the number of transactions in 2019 was slightly lower compared to 2018 – 111 against 115.
It is also noted that in 2019 the volume of M&A operations (mergers and acquisitions) increased 18 times. In total, 15 such transactions were recorded totaling $ 460 million, while in 2018 there were 7 transactions totaling $ 25.2 million. The volume of investment of business angels increased 7 times – up to $ 6.1 million at the end of 2019 compared to $ 0.9 million in 2018.
At the same time, 2019 was distinguished by 29 new inventions for Ukrainian investors, with the average agreement check growing by 78% and amounted to $ 5.7 million. Software development companies became leaders in the number of transactions and their volume, moving online services to second place. The volume of TOP-10 deals almost doubled and amounted to $ 456 million. 90% of the attracted investments were capital from the USA.
