Forbes ranked top US startup employers with two Ukrainian companies in it
Forbes has released America’s Best Startups Employers 2020 ranking as part of an annual survey of top U.S. employers. The top 500 were selected from more than 2,500 applicants by three criteria: employer reputation, employee satisfaction and growth.
The rating includes two companies founded by Ukrainians: 35th took GitLab, and 263th – Allset.
What kind of companies are it
GitLab
GitLab – is a platform for collaboration and DevOps. The main competitor of the startup is GitHub, which is owned by Microsoft since 2018.
The startup was founded by Kharkiv’s Dmitro Zaporozhets in 2011. In 2013, he was joined by a second funder, Dutch businessman Sid Sibranji. From that point on, they started working on the GitLab Fultime.
The company has about 100,000 corporate clients, including Ask Media Group, Charter Communication, Delta Air Lines, Goldman Sachs, Ticketmaster, Nvidia and others. The company employs more than 800 people from 55 countries.
In September 2019, GitLab raised $ 268 million as part of the Series E round. The company was valued at $ 2.7 billion. Investors included Goldman Sachs, Iconiq Capital, Y Combinator and Continuity Fund. Together with the new round, GitLab raised $ 426 million in total.
Earlier, Dmitro Zaporozhets commented on the geographical identity of the company:
“One startup from Ukraine is partly a Ukrainian startup. Another startup from the Netherlands is partly a Dutch startup. After investors came from California, now it’s partly an American startup. From that, I think the startup can be called Ukrainian”.
Allset
Allset – is a restaurant reservations service, which also allows you to pre-order a meal and pay through the mobile app.
Allset was founded in 2015 by Ukrainians Stas Matvienko and Anna Polishchuk. Before the rebranding in 2016, the app was called Settle.
The company has two offices – in San Francisco and Kyiv. The development team is focused in Ukraine, and application tests are underway in the US. In total, the company has about 50 employees.
The company raised a total of $ 8.35 million in investments, including from Andreessen Horowitz, Vaizra Investments, Compound, FJ Labs and the Ukrainian SMRK Foundation, founded by Alexander Kosovan, also known by CleanMyMac.
