Ukraine and the US may resume joint competitions for scientists this year
Ukraine and the United States plan to resume competitions for bilateral scientific projects, as well as to develop other opportunities for joint research and scientific cooperation. This is envisaged by the Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the US Government on cooperation in the field of science and technology.
The draft law to extend this Agreement was developed by the Ministry of Education and Science and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on February 19, 2020. In the future, it will be submitted for adoption to the Verkhovna Rada.
“We do our best to integrate Ukrainian scientists into the international research space. For this, it is important to increase our presence in international programs and projects, as well as to expand bilateral cooperation. We signed an agreement with the US back in 2006, but our scientific cooperation has not always been in an active state. Now we are changing this situation, ”said Minister of Education and Science Ganna Novosad.
The agreement will be extended for 5 years. It spells out such forms of cooperation as:
- exchange of scientific and technical information;
- exchange of scientists and technicians;
- holding joint seminars and meetings;
- training of scientists and technicians;
- joint research and more.
The development of direct contacts in the field of science is envisaged between governmental bodies, universities, research institutions, private companies and other organizations of the two countries.
“We already have a preliminary agreement to hold a joint working group on science and technology this year. In particular, there will be a decision to launch a competition for bilateral scientific projects. So we hope for further support of the Verkhovna Rada, which has to approve the bill on ratification of the Agreement, and the President who has to sign it. After that, we will be able to exchange notes and the document will come into force”, Ganna Novosad said.
