At the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine was held a meeting with representatives of the US Embassy in Ukraine on Intellectual Property
Within the framework of international partnership, Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture of Ukraine Olexandr Romanishin held a meeting with representatives of the American Embassy in Ukraine, diplomats of the Economic Department Sam Mikhelson and Aaron If anyone, to discuss the progress of the reform in the field of intellectual property.
“This year, Ukraine improved its ranking in the Global Innovation Index 2020 and climbed two notches higher than last year, entering the TOP-2 countries of the lower-middle income group. In particular, we improved results in the categories of education, research and distribution of knowledge. That is, we are truly developing the sphere of innovations and intellectual property in Ukraine as never before”, – said Olexandr Romanishin.
During the meeting, they discussed the state of development of national legislation in the field of intellectual property in the context of the latest legislative changes on the reform of patent law and strengthening the protection and protection of rights to trademarks and industrial designs. They also discussed the creation of the National Intellectual Property Authority (NIPA) and organizational issues related to the functioning of NIPA.
The meeting participants also discussed the successful promotion of the reform of the collective management of property rights of copyright and related rights holders. In particular, as of September 14, the Ministry registered 17 collective management organizations (CMOs), which in turn provided all the necessary data to publish them on the Ministry’s website.
In addition, CMOs accreditation has been completed in 2 areas of extended and 4 areas of mandatory collective management. Also, the Ministry of Economy announced a new competition in the following areas: public performance and public communication of musical non-dramatic works.
A separate issue was considered the state of the fight against Internet piracy in Ukraine and the legalization of unlicensed software in the executive authorities. In particular, over the past year, the Cyber Police Department terminated the activities of more than 50 pirated web resources and Internet trading platforms, which sold counterfeit and falsified products of domestic and foreign manufacturers.
