Meeting of the acting Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine Anka Feldgusen

On October 1, 2020, a meeting of the acting Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Sergiy Shkarlet with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine Anka Feldgusen was held.

“Cooperation between Ukraine and Germany in the field of education and science is quite fruitful and active both between institutions of general secondary education and between universities and scientific institutions”, – said Sergiy Shkarlet.

He expressed gratitude to the German Embassy and the Goethe-Institut in Ukraine for the comprehensive support of Ukrainian education – assistance in the professional development of German teachers and the development of the school network, in particular:

  • assistance in the development of training programs for teachers of foreign languages ​​”Teaching a foreign language in grades 1-2 and 3-4″;
  • training of trainers for conducting advanced training courses for teachers of foreign languages ​​(36 multipliers from German);
  • continuing the professional training of teachers, especially teachers of 3-4 grades;
  • creation of a school network, which is being developed in Ukraine by the Goethe-Institute “Network for Sustainable Development”. Today, in 22 schools in Ukraine, which are part of the network, teaching subjects using the CLIL method in tandem (teacher of professional discipline + teacher of German).

“It is important to note the active Ukrainian-German cooperation in the field of higher education. Higher education institutions of Germany and Ukraine jointly participate in 6 projects of the Erasmus + program. Traditionally, scientific and technological cooperation between our countries is of paramount importance – for more than a quarter of a century, as the beginning of the Ukrainian-German cooperation in the field of science and technology”, – stressed Sergiy Shkarlet.

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine Anka Feldgusen, in turn, noted the high level of cooperation and assured of further support for the education sector.

“We look forward to further cooperation and a high level of partnership. Teams of young specialists from both countries will work on the implementation of joint educational and scientific projects”, – said Ambassador Anka Feldguzen.

The parties also discussed cooperation to support the New Ukrainian School and drew attention to Articles 8, 12, 35 of the new Law of Ukraine “On Secondary Education”, which reflect and legislate preferences for schools whose activities are carried out in accordance with international treaties.
