Ukraine and Finland discussed the creation of a Green Investment Fund
Deputy Minister of Energy for European Integration Yaroslav Demchenkov, acting Chairman of the State Energy Efficiency Konstantin Gura, Finnish Ambassador to Ukraine Päivi Laine, representatives of the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and NEFCO discussed areas of cooperation in the field of energy efficiency and decarbonization.
This was reported by the press service of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving.
“The development of the concept of the GIF UA (Green Investment Fund UA) Green Investment Fund will initiate the launch of yet another effective financial mechanism to support energy efficient and green projects”, – the statement says.
Ukraine and Finland also have prospects for expanding successful cooperation in the implementation of projects to improve the energy efficiency of medical institutions in Ukraine.
“In difficult times of a pandemic and quarantine, the issues of the reliable functioning of critical infrastructure facilities are especially acute for the Ministry of Health. According to the results of negotiations with the Ministry of Health, the State Energy Efficiency Agency has already received a list of potential energy-efficient projects in healthcare institutions. We are asking our Finnish partners to consider ways to support the implementation of such projects within the framework of the work NEFCO and Fund”, – Gura said.
Close cooperation between Ukraine and Finland was founded in 2017 after the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy between the State Energy Efficiency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.
As part of the implementation of the Memorandum, the Finnish-Ukrainian Trust Fund was established by the joint efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, State Energy Efficiency and NEFCO. The Foundation provides technical assistance to Ukrainian local authorities and business representatives in the development of high-quality feasibility studies (FS) and the implementation of demonstration projects. To date, the Fund has considered more than 120 project proposals and supported 25 applications.
