Obimy is an application for communication between partners and relatives from a Ukrainian startup
On September 15, 2020, an application for communication between partners and loved ones, Obimy, was launched in Ukraine. It was launched by architect Yevgen Zasutsky and IT-company Empat. The editorial staff of AIN.UA learned from the creators how it works and for whom the application is primarily intended.
How it works
- In Obimy, the user can share pleasant gestures, “touches” and talk about his mood with the partner.
- Obimy also works on the basis of biometric data recorded by a smartphone – you can see the number of steps taken by a partner, feel the heart rate or find out the day of the cycle (for women). In addition, the application records the time spent with a partner for a day, month or year.
- You cannot exchange messages in the application. As the creators explain, loved ones do not need many words to express feelings.
“The concept of social distance doesn’t just start with a pandemic. We’ve been stuck with messengers for the past few years. Work chat is mixed with private correspondence and spam. We have lost the real connection with our family and friends”, – the application’s website says.
Obimy is already available for download on the App Store and Google Play. However, the creators note that now there is a high probability of encountering bugs – the application is at the testing stage.
How did the idea come about
As Evgen Zasutsky said, initially the idea was different – the application was developed only for couples in order to share biometric data. Later, an idea arose with mood, and after that – with touches. Since it was fun to share emotions and gestures, they decided to expand the potential audience.
“In times when you need to maintain social distance – it’s cool to touch a loved one at a distance”.
According to Eugen, they have been working on the development of Obimy since December 2019. It took the team 10 months to launch the app.
“Since December 2019, I have assembled a team of developers, analysts, programmers, designers, lawyers, financiers, marketers, physicians and geneticists. We worked for 10 months, studied, changed, developed. And we made Obimy”, – Eugen clarifies.
Plans
As the creators said, in the future, Obimy plans to introduce a critical days tracker for girls and a “Sizes” function with clothing sizes. In the near future, the transmission of touches will be supplemented with tactile vibration: by asking touch, for example, for 2.5 seconds, the partner or friend will receive the same vibration in time. Also in the plans to introduce achievements for special achievements – for example, 100 hours in a row or 2 weeks together abroad.
“We will listen to our users. By and large, everything that you would like to share with loved ones – desires, pressure, music, etc – we can add ourselves to the application. But everything is gradual”, – added Eugene.
After a crash test on the first users in Ukraine, the Obimy team plans to launch a test in Taiwan and South Korea.
