South Korea will study artificial intelligence as part of the school curriculum
High school students in South Korea will be able to study artificial intelligence as early as the second semester of next year, according to the Ministry of Education.
In an administrative announcement, the Ministry of Education announced plans to introduce two courses of artificial intelligence (AI) as electives in the high school curriculum. This is the first time that a country will study artificial intelligence as part of its regular school curriculum.
Under the new scheme, high school students will be able to choose an introductory course in AI or AI maths among other electives. If all goes according to plan, courses are likely to be accepted in the second semester of 2021. Given that the publication and review of new textbooks usually take up to a year. Freshmen will be allowed to enroll in AI classes when they advance to 11th grade in 2022.
