August 11, 2020, temporary acting Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Shkarlet held a working meeting with the leadership of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. During the meeting, topical issues of supporting the further development of academic science in Ukraine were discussed. In particular, they discussed issues of promising ways of reforming academic science, improving state support for collective use centers, the possibility of financing individual scientific and scientific and technical programs, organizing scientific examination of textbooks, optimizing licensing procedures for educational activities for the preparation of doctors of philosophy and accreditation of relevant educational programs, etc.

In addition, representatives of the National Academy of Sciences reported on the main results of priority scientific research, in particular in terms of countering the Coronavirus disease.

Temporary acting Minister Serhiy Shkarlet invited the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine to more actively demonstrate the results of its work, participate in the development of draft scientific and legal acts on scientific and scientific and technical activities, and also participate in the discussion of the initiatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The National Academy of Sciences proposed to conclude an updated agreement on cooperation between the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science, since the current version of the document was approved in 2002

“Science should be a real force of social progress, a real productive force, a key institution of a knowledge society. Academic science is capable of generating results that will give our country a leading position in the world coordinate system. We must support productive scientists who are able to work in a new environment. In addition, in our opinion, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine should develop a clear and realistic plan of reform, give answers to questions to strengthen its role in the processes of further development of the state. The opinion of reputable scientists on topical issues of the formation and implementation of policy in the field of science and education is very important, and we are awaiting appropriate recommendations”, – said Sergiy Shkarlet.
