Ukrainian scientists and entrepreneurs can join 11 competitions for access to EU research laboratories in the field of nuclear research

The Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Commission has announced 11 new competitions for its Open Access to JRC Research Infrastructures program. The EU member states and the countries associated with Eurat (Ukraine and Switzerland) can take part in them.

Competitions provide access to modern research laboratories in the field of nuclear research. First of all invite to join:

  • higher education institutions and research institutes specializing in nuclear research;
  • small and medium enterprises with engineering experience in nuclear infrastructure facilities.

Importantly, in addition to access to the labs, the winners will also be able to receive reimbursement of selected logistics costs.

The contests have 3 categories:

1. Actinide User Laboratory (ActUsLab) (Karlsruhe, Germany)

Three laboratories in Karlsruhe are dedicated to the study of actinides, which are the basis of nuclear technologies for energy, space research, and nuclear medicine. Scientists will be able to conduct new research to develop new nuclear equipment and materials.

Deadline for applications: September 30, 2020

2. Laboratory of the Environmental & Mechanical Materials Assessment (EMMA) (Patten, Netherlands)

Four research infrastructures allow mechanical testing in environmental and corrosive environments from cryogenic to high temperatures at micro and macro scales. Scientists will be able to investigate the mechanical and corrosive properties of materials, characterize them and work on a safe nuclear reactor infrastructure.

Deadline for applications: October 15, 2020

3. European research infrastructure for nuclear reaction, radioactivity, radiation and technology studies in science and applications (EUFRAT) (Gel, Belgium)

Four European research laboratories at Geli provide the ability to measure nuclear reactions and decay data. Such measurements help to make nuclear reactors and nuclear waste management safe, as well as enhance the radiological protection of citizens and the environment.

Deadline for applications: October 15, 2020
