Research laboratories on artificial intelligence will be created in Ukrainian universities – the first stage has begun

In Ukrainian universities, with the support of business, it’s planning to create laboratories for research in the field of artificial intelligence. The first stage of the initiative – the presentation to the project of artificial intelligence laboratories for representatives of universities and IT businesses – took place on June 25, 2020.

The event was jointly organized by the Committee for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Ukraine under the Ministry of Digital Transformation and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. In total, the event was attended by more than 100 representatives of the Ukrainian Military District, in the educational programs of which the directions of artificial intelligence are presented.

The meeting participants made recommendations on the creation and organization of the activities of artificial intelligence laboratories in universities. The project to create an appropriate laboratory has already been implemented at the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU).

This case was presented to universities by the head of R & D SoftServe Mykolay Maksimenko. He spoke about the motivation of IT companies to support and provide funding for research and development of such laboratories.

Olexiy Molchanovsky, head of the educational program at UCU, shared his experience in creating and organizing the work of the machine learning research laboratory.

The chairman of the educational group of the Committee for the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Ukraine Viktor Sdobnikov spoke about the experience of long-term interaction between companies and universities in Ukraine.

And the information on the organizational, legal and financial aspects of creating laboratories was presented by the head of the expert group on the development of innovations of the Directorate of Science and Innovation MES Igor Taranov.

At the next stage, the project will be offered a standard package of agreements between universities and companies on the procedure for creating artificial intelligence laboratories. This will significantly speed up and simplify the work of leading foreign companies with universities, as well as attract investment in the development of artificial intelligence in Ukraine.

In the future, it is planned to organize another event for Ukrainian universities and businesses. At it, universities will present the ability to organize such a laboratory on the basis of their institution, and business will be able to choose the best investment project.
