In the USA, a scooter service has arrived that comes to the user themselves
The American company Tortoise began testing a remote control scooter rental service in a suburb of Atlanta (USA). They themselves come to the user at the desired point and go themselves after the completion of the lease for charging. They can be quickly controlled to evenly distribute scooters in the work area. The scooters are controlled by a team of operators from Mexico City, from which 2,800 km to Atlanta.
The new service, one of the founders of which is Dmitro Shevelenko, a native of Uber, solves several problems at once that slowed down the development of this type of transport in many American cities, reports The Verge.
The key one is the poor organization of the redistribution of scooters after rental sessions, as a result of which entire city quarters in popular areas turned out to be littered with scooters, interfering with both pedestrians and cars. Because of this, in some cities, in particular San Francisco, local authorities were even forced to impose restrictions on the operation of electric scooter rental services.
What solution does startup offer
Tortoise solves this problem in an obvious way. Their scooters are equipped with cameras, automatic and remote control systems, as well as an additional two small retractable wheels, thanks to which the scooter gains stability during autonomous movement.
Having received a scooter call through the application, the operator sends a charged copy to the customer, controlling his movement through the camera – speed and safety of riding. When the scooter seems, it also automatically returns to the base, where it undergoes sanitation and becomes charged. If for some reason the scooter fell during an autonomous movement or was hit by someone, this is monitored through the camera and then a local support officer is sent to it.
The video demonstrates the possibilities of such a solution:
Everyone benefits from the service. Users do not need to look for scooter stations, which can be empty or with discharged batteries, the gadget can come directly to the entrance, you can leave it anywhere. The authorities are happy because they no longer need to clean up the sidewalks. Finally, a group of Mexicans is happy, who from Mexico City with the help of Xbox consoles manages orders and the entire scooter fleet.
“You don’t have to wonder if the scooter will be parked, you don’t have to go to the point where you can pick it up – you order it and wait at home or in the office”, – Shevelenko explained to the publication.
Now 100 scooters are available for rent. Service is available at the Peachtree Corners Business Park north of Atlanta. Startup Tortoise does not manage it independently, but in partnership with the telecom operator Go, as well as with the administration of the business park. If technology testing and business metrics are successful, the startup will expand its coverage.
