Samsung supports SunnyFive startup, which is developing a window that simulates natural sunlight

Startup incubator Samsung C-Labs took the SunnyFive development team under its wing. It is creating an artificial window that supposedly provides all the benefits of natural sunlight.

Apparently, the SunnyFive window looks like light therapy lamps designed for people with seasonal affective disorder. It displays the full spectrum of natural light and can be programmed to simulate the lighting effects of a real window.

The angle of incidence of light will change throughout the day and includes various “scenarios of sunlight” – such as sunrise, dawn, dusk and sunset. The accompanying application allows users to adjust the color temperature and brightness, and can also act as an alarm clock.

According to Samsung, such an artificial window “helps users synthesize vitamin D, even when indoors or in places with insufficient lighting. At the same time, users can not be afraid of problems such as skin aging or sunburn. The window will be integrated into SmartThings smart home ecosystem.

SunnyFive’s offer may be particularly attractive now – at a time when many are forced to stay at home to resist the spread of coronavirus COVID-19 infection. For anyone who has a poorly lit apartment or room, the ability to have an artificial window with almost natural light can make a big difference.

Unfortunately, there is not much information about the SunnyFive window so far. Information on the price and timing of its entry into the market is not specified. There is only a statement by Samsung that the development team received support from the company and, apparently, will soon appear as an independent startup.

An earlier version of SunnyFive (then called SunnySide) was unveiled at CES Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year.
