An innovative way to solve burning and fire problems

Nizhyn was elected to the project “Do not burn-compost”. This was reported on the Facebook network by Nizhyn Investment with reference to ULEAD Chernihiv regional office.

The UNDP Innovation Development Laboratory in Ukraine, together with the Innovation Development Center, is launching a challenging project for responsible communities seeking to effectively prevent the burning of stubble, fallen leaves, organic and other garden and agricultural waste in their communities, informs ua.undp.org.

Every year, more than 56,000 fires occur in Ukraine in natural ecosystems and in open areas, as evidenced by the data of the State Emergency Situations Service of Ukraine. This causes billions in losses, pollutes the air, destroys entire ecosystems and kills lives. In 2019, indirect losses from fires in ecosystems amounted to about UAH 34 billion; 84 people died.

Such a serious problem cannot be overcome only with fines – it is necessary to look for innovative ways to solve it.

Nizhin community (Nizhin city council) has joined the #NepaliCompostui challenge project, which is being implemented by UNDP Ukraine/UNDP in Ukraine together with the Center for Innovations Development.

150+ communities from all over Ukraine have already joined the initiative.
The project has also received support from the Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine.
Join a group of eco-conscious and active communities to solve the problem of burning stubble, grass and fallen leaves and share composting experiences – https://www.facebook.com/groups/dont.burn/?fref=mentions&__tn__=KH-R .
