Ministry of Digital Transformation announces the launch of the National IT Project Contest in Ukraine #HackCorona

Ministry of Digital Transformation launches national competition for IT projects and ideas that make life easier for citizens and businesses during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Today, we need a collective mind more than ever. In such a difficult time, it is important to join forces and do everything possible to fight the epidemic. The country needs new ideas and IT solutions, how to implement it effectively”, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhaylo Fedorov says.

Participants can submit projects in the following areas:

  • Coronavirus counteraction. Electronic services aimed at counteracting the spread of the COVID19 epidemic.
  • E-services for citizens. Social, educational, administrative and other public services that are especially relevant during quarantine.
  • Social entrepreneurship. Innovative ideas for the development of digital social entrepreneurship in quarantine, which can be realized through the remote involvement of citizens.
  • Mutual assistance. Quarantine support and support services for the most vulnerable populations.

These can be both brand new products and improved existing solutions.

The best ideas will get funding for implementation. The total prize fund for the winners is UAH 4 million. The winners are also expected to receive mentoring support during project implementation.

Applications are accepted until April 6, and already on April 9, jury members will select the winners.

The main criteria for project selection will be the innovativeness of the solution, social impact, development prospects and relevance. Projects must demonstrate a genuine social impact for citizens or businesses, in line with the objectives of the competition. The team must have a clear understanding of the target audience and scope, demonstrate specific development opportunities and scalability across the country.

The Challenge jury will include Mykhaylo Fedorov, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Digital Transformation and Deputy Minister Oleksandr Bornyakov. Business Representatives Andriy Fedoriv, founder of FEDORIV marketing company, Oleg Gorokhovsky, co-founder of Monobank, recognized as the best Ukrainian FinTech startup in 2017, and Yaroslav Azhniuk, CEO of Petcube, a gadget for pet owners in 2014 and is the best hardware company in Europe by The Europas.

Also members of the jury were Viktor Liakh, President of the Foundation for Eastern Europe, Ilona Postemska Project Coordinator of the Swiss Cooperation Office in Ukraine and UNDP Resident Representative in Ukraine Dauphina Gercheva.

Partners of the National IT Project Competition #HackCorona in Ukraine are the EGAP program, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and implemented by the Eastern Europe and Innovabridge Fund and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
