National quarantine extended until April 24 – government decision

The national quarantine, which was to last until April 3 inclusive, was extended for 21 days – until April 24 inclusive. The Government adopted the relevant decision today, 25 March 2020.

Thus, all educational institutions, regardless of ownership and management, should continue quarantine activities until the appropriate deadline.

“Given the situation in the world, such a decision was expected. At present, the timing of quarantine may change again depending on the epidemiological situation in Ukraine. This year’s external independent testing will have to be postponed to later dates. However, it will definitely happen. It will also change the timing of the introductory campaign. We currently have several possible scenarios. I hope that by the end of this week we will be able to present them to the society with a clear timing,” – said the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Yegor Stadnyi

Changes are also envisaged in conducting a third-party external independent evaluation. Detailed information will be published on the MES website tomorrow, March 26, 2020.

We would like to remind you that since March 12, 2020, a decision of the Government in Ukraine has introduced a quarantine for all educational institutions.

In response to this decision, the MES recommended educational institutions:

  • to refuse to hold and participate in mass events in the premises and in the territory of educational establishments, including trial independent external evaluation, competitions, competitions, exhibitions, etc.;
  • not send educational recipients and staff to countries with a high risk of infection;
  • inform education recipients and staff on how to prevent the spread of the disease and what to do in case of illness;
  • to develop measures for conducting classes by means of remote technologies and for working out of classes in accordance with the curricula after the epidemiological situation has normalized;
  • to develop measures for partial transfer of employees to remote work;
  • provide preventative measures to prevent the widespread spread of acute respiratory illness caused by coronavirus and acute respiratory infections;
  • to allocate in the dormitories of vocational schools, professional higher, higher, postgraduate education places for isolation of educational applicants with signs of acute respiratory diseases;
  • to execute decisions of temporary regional anti-epidemiological commissions;
  • limit scheduled meetings, inspections, and examinations to the normalization of the epidemiological situation.

The Ministry of Education and Science has clarified that, due to the introduction of national quarantine, teachers should be maximally transferred to flexible and teleworked jobs, while keeping average wages even for those who do not actually go to work.
