Electronic passports in action: Government approved

The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution “On the implementation of a pilot project on the application of a passport of a citizen of Ukraine in the form of a card in electronic form and a passport of a citizen of Ukraine for traveling abroad in electronic form”.

E-passports in Diya are digital analogs of paper documents, in accordance with the decree.

Digital passports will soon be available to all Ukrainians, but for now more than 17 thousand citizens are testing them. Electronic versions of the ID-card and foreign biometric passport will be available in the mobile application.

In quarantine, this is especially true, because digital passports can be used as an identification card in case the police stop.

In addition, using an electronic passport within the country, you can travel by plane or train, receive postal services and conduct banking operations. Also on the passport in the Action mobile application, you can confirm that you have reached the age of majority when buying cigarettes or alcohol in the store. Get medical, hotel services or present to law enforcement.

Using a digital passport, you can use the library, get communication services, go to administrative buildings and receive government services at the Service Centers, Diya or to receive funds when returning goods.

All documents in the Diya mobile application are valid only in Ukraine. The passport provides the same rights and opportunities as the national one. Thus, if a citizen does not have a driver’s driver or ID card, he can prove his identity with a passport, which is in action.

A digital passport is more reliable than paper but no less reliable than plastic. Every hour, the Diya mobile application updates information on documents in the registries, and every three minutes a unique QR code is generated, according to which you can check your passport from any smartphone where the Action is installed.
