Czech engineers have invented a filter that will help destroy COVID-19: how it works

Czech scientists have developed innovative filters for ventilation systems that will help fight the spread of COVID-19. Engineers from the University of Prague worked on the prototype of the invention for several months.

How does it work?

Czech engineers relied on the research of French scientists from the University of Aix-Marseille, who assure that the coronavirus can die at temperatures of + 92 ° within 15 minutes, says Radio Svobody.

“When the pandemic began, our faculty urged everyone to use our knowledge in the fight against the virus. We had experience with heating different types of textiles and we thought that something could come of it. For the production of the first prototypes, we used materials that we managed to take from the workshop before the quarantine was announced”, – said the head of the group of inventors Lukasz Vojtech.

The innovative filter consists of two layers that can conduct current. There is a nanotissue between them, which can be heated up to 92 degrees for 15-20 minutes. So, the device is connected to a current of 12 volts, the developers explain.

A team of three engineers worked remotely on the filter prototype. A discussion of the details of the invention took place via Skype. Within three months, the inventors were able to create an absolutely working prototype.

“Only 12 volts is enough to heat the filter surface. That is, in essence, we heat and sterilize the filter with an electric current. The principle is the same as for other types of filters, which are sterilized using a microwave oven. Our technology will allow us to do this on an industrial scale”, – says Vojtech.

The group of inventors adds that negotiations are now underway with scientists to test the effectiveness of the invention against COVID-19 in a laboratory. When the device is successfully tested, and experts prove that it can neutralize the coronavirus, a group of researchers will offer their development to companies around the world.

Finally, Czech engineers note that these filters can be used in ventilation systems for homes, offices and cars. In case of successful testing results, the developers plan to create personal protective equipment based on filters.
