Apple attacks pear startup Prepear
And dozens of other companies with “fruit” logos.
Apple is filing a lawsuit against the developers of the Prepear app because of the pear logo. Apple claims the Prepear logo is too similar to its own logo, ixbt.com writes.
The Prepear app helps users find recipes, dishes, make lists and organize grocery delivery. Apple claims the Prepear logo is too similar to its own logo.
Prepear developers said the lawsuit hit the company hard. They had to spend several thousand dollars and fire one of the team members, which only had five people.
Prepear has created a petition on Change.org, the signatories of which are trying to convince Apple to drop the claim. The petition also calls for large tech companies to stop abusing their financial position by targeting small businesses struggling with COVID-19.
“Most small businesses cannot afford to spend tens of thousands of dollars to fight Apple. It’s awful to be subjected to legal attack from one of the largest companies in the world, even if we have clearly done nothing wrong. We understand why most companies just give in and change their logos”, – Prepear team said.
Prepear claims Apple has filed dozens of similar lawsuits against small companies with fruit-related logos, even in cases where the logo or industry has nothing to do with Apple.
