The heart is under control. Formula 1 designed underwear for cardiogram riders
Auto racing equipment manufacturer OMP Racing and Marelli have announced a new development – a “smart” VISM shirt that can monitor human health.
VISM is off and can measure and transmit the driver’s heart rate and breath statistics to the team and doctors during a car race.
This will allow doctors to see the vital signs of the driver before, during and after the accident, providing them with important data before they arrive at the scene.
The novelty is the standard top of a set of refractory underwear, but with Sensitex electronic components integrated into the shirt. Underwear produced by Marelli and OMP Racing and processes biometric data in real-time.
This is already called a significant improvement over the current biometric glove that drivers must wear. The kit includes sensors that allow you to take an electrocardiogram in real-time and monitor chest movements, tracking in addition to heart rate and respiratory rate.
Teams can also use the data collected to help control their driver’s stress and fatigue in the middle of the race.
Riccardo De Filippi, CEO of Marelli, said: “VISM is a tool for professional drivers to monitor biometric data. We believe that this experience is an important step forward in the development of safety systems, as well as active aids for drivers, including for drivers of ordinary cars”.
