Swedish startup Einride unveils next generation of its autonomous electric truck
In four versions.
Swedish startup Einride unveiled its first self-contained electric truck, the T-Pod, back in 2017, but now the company has finally made it to mass production and unveiled an updated version of the model. According to the creators, the electric truck has become more aerodynamic and technologically ready for mass production, but at the same time retained the main feature in the form of the absence of a cabin, writes itc.ua.
The electric truck is now called AET (Autonomous Electric Transport), while the company will offer customers four versions of the model at once: AET 1 (Fenced), AET 2 (Nearby), AET 3 (Rural) and AET 4 (Highway). They all look the same in appearance and have similar cargo capacity (gross weight 26 tons, cargo weight – 16 tons), but differ in unmanned capabilities.
The first version of AET 1 (Fenced) is designed exclusively for use within small closed areas (ports, warehouses, logistics complexes), where it will move along predetermined routes. The next version of AET 2 (Nearby) will be able to do the same, but in addition will be able to cover a short distance between ports/warehouses on public roads. Both versions will accelerate to a maximum of 30 km / h and have a range of 130-180 km.
AET version 3 (Rural) will be able to independently move on minor, rural and minimally congested roads between destinations at a speed of 45 km / h. The most advanced version of the AET 4 (Highway) will be capable of driving on highways at speeds up to 85 km / h.
All four versions of the Einride AET are currently open for pre-orders, with AET 1/2 starting in 2021 and AET 3/4 in 2022-2023. To pre-order, you need to pay $ 10 thousand, and after receiving the truck, you will need to pay a monthly subscription for access to the proprietary control platform Einride (recall that despite the absence of a cab, these trucks can be operated by remote operators). For AET 1, the monthly subscription will be $ 18,000, for AET 2 – $ 19,000, for AET 3 – $ 20,000, AET 4 – $ 22,500, the cost may be revised on an individual basis.
